![]() ![]() Seems like it is a recurring thing for the Watcher`s soul to let their sister carry the consequences of their own actions and doubts but also to be forgiven and loved by the sister regardless. When you were able to identify Iovara as your sister the parallels with the Watcher`s backgroud story were evident. This affected the watcher deeply and led to a self-imposed exile and search for the half-sister, who had already escaped on her own and joined the watcher. Out of love for the watcher she would take the blame and order the watcher to keep quiet so that only one of them would have to suffer the consequences. There must have been a serious incident of some sort, where the watcher went too far in questioning or disobeying and the half-sister got blamed. The Huana culture does not seem particularly welcoming to challenging the rules of their caste system. The main character is of course a busybody, who knows better than others, questions and sticks their nose in the business of others (which the player often does in a video game). First of all the father has died, which left the bastard daughter in a flimsy position. I wanted her to have the slave background for gameplay reasons and it all clicked, what must have gone down. ![]() I also have a coastal aumaua in my party who is the half-sister of my watcher,a bastard of their father (I have no certainty on how aumaua races interbreed). The aristocratic background assumes, based on your conversation choices with Calisca, at the start of the first game, that you were somehow cast out or something other bad has happened to force you to be a lonely traveler despite your noble lineage. I play as an Island Aumaua with aristocracy background from Deadfire since in my head canon this will allow me to have a unique experience in the second game. It really fit perfectly with the headcanon story I have for my character. This is maybe my fifth playthrough and I think I paid closer attention to the main plot (or at least this part of it) than ever before.
